Known from a single specimen from Southern Brazil, Staurikosaurus was a small theropod from the Middle Triassic, 231 to 225 million years ago, and is one of the earliest dinosaurs. At some two metres in length, 80 and weighing just thirty kilograms, Staurikosaurus was dwarfed by the theropods that were to come later. It remains equivocal whether it was a sauropod or a true therpod, though more recent research supports it was a theropod. |
